How to make cold brew

Come fare il cold brew

Summer has arrived! And what better way to cool down than with a delicious cold coffee?

This coffee preparation method has several positive features:

The slow brewing draws out all the wonderful flavor from the coffee beans (and yes, the caffeine too – no worries!). But it also leaves behind most of the compounds that can make coffee bitter and sour. This means that cold-brewed coffee is incredibly smooth and almost sweet in taste. Perfect for iced coffee.

Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 60 grams of coarsely ground coffee
  • 0.5 litre of cold water

Instructions:

  1. Start by measuring 60 grams of coarsely ground coffee.
  2. Pour the ground coffee into a container or glass jug.
  3. Add 0.5 litre of cold water to the container with the coffee. Stir gently to make sure all the coffee is soaked in the water.
  4. Cover the container with a lid or cling film to prevent dust or outside smells from spoiling the coffee.
  5. Place the container in the fridge and let the coffee brew for at least 12 hours, but preferably up to 24 hours. The brewing time can vary depending on personal strength preferences.
  6. After the desired brewing time, remove the container from the fridge.
  7. Prepare a second container or jug with a fine mesh strainer or cloth filter over it. Pour the brewed coffee through the filter to separate the coffee grounds from the drink.
  8. Repeat the filtering process if needed to get a coffee completely free of sediment.
  9. Your cold brew coffee is ready!
  10. Store the cold-brewed coffee in the fridge and consume it within 3-4 days to enjoy its best flavor.
